Hanson 1 - not the best day

Posted on August 13, 2013
Well, day two has turned out to be more challenging than I had expected (hoped for).

Hanson's incredible Piano Sonata (first movement) is more difficult to capture in recording than in live performance. Having played it a number of times (in the US and abroad) it "works" live - the audiences seem to enjoy it's "hear on your sleeve" emotionalism, soaring melodies and surprising harmonies.

As a pianist, though, I really want to get it right. So after many many takes of many passages, I've got a rough play of the exposition and development. The recap is HARD.

I'll pick up Wednesday morning.

On a happier "note," the piano sounds GREAT!!!
